چکیده

This paper describes a 3-D automated pavement distress data collection and analysis system based on NRC’s Biris sensor technology. The paper introduces the problem to be solved, the selected design criteria, and the adopted solution to monitor the quality of road surfaces. The system geometry for the acquisition of the threedimensional coordinates of pavement surface distresses is presented. Multiple feature extraction and system integration concepts are given with emphasis placed on the real-time processing of the raw data by a parallel array of processors. Advantages and disadvantages of this technology will be discussed. System performances and experimental results are provided.

Impact of Image Resolution on Pavement Distress Detection Using Picucha Methodology

An accurate and regular survey of the road surface distresses is a key factor for pavement rehabilitation design and management, allowing public managers to maximize the value of the continuously limited budgets for road improvements and maintenance. Manual pavement distress surveys are labor-intensive, expensive and unsafe for highly-trafficked highways. Over the years, automated surveys using...

Evaluation Of Pavement Surface Distress Using Digital Image Collection And Analysis

Local Authority road networks commonly include roads with different functional characteristics and a variety of construction types, which require maintenance solutions tailored to their needs. Given this background, on local road network, pavement management is founded on the experience of the agency engineers and is often constrained by low budgets and a variety of environmental and external r...

Pothole detection in asphalt pavement images

Pavement condition assessment is essential when developing road network maintenance programs. In practice, the data collection process is to a large extent automated. However, pavement distress detection (cracks, potholes, etc.) is mostly performed manually, which is labor-intensive and time-consuming. Existing methods either rely on complete 3D surface reconstruction, which comes along with hi...

Second-Order Statistical Texture Representation of Asphalt Pavement Distress Images Based on Local Binary Pattern in Spatial and Wavelet Domain

Assessment of pavement distresses is one of the important parts of pavement management systems to adopt the most effective road maintenance strategy. In the last decade, extensive studies have been done to develop automated systems for pavement distress processing based on machine vision techniques. One of the most important structural components of computer vision is the feature extraction met...

Minisymposium: Image Analysis Methods for Industrial Applications Pavement Surface Distress by Using Non-linear Image Analysis Techniques

The Local Authority road networks commonly comprise roads of various functional characteristics and a variety of construction types. In this paper we investigate about the use of digital techniques to obtain field data to increase safety and reduce labour (cost) requirements using a semi-automated distress collection and measurement system. In particular, the proposed algorithm automatically de...
